IRC NEWS 2007- A Great Year for IRC
IRC presented a series of outstanding programs in 2007, programs that examined international affairs from a number of perspectives. IRC audiences learned about the Iran nuclear weapons program with the CATO Institute’s Justin Logan, about India-U.S. relations with Ambassador Ronan Sen, and about the current Middle East status, with Ambassador Dennis Ross. An engaged IRC audience learned about global sustainability with Dr. Wes Jackson. Certainly, the South African wine tasting event at Shook, Hardy & Bacon was a highlight of 2007. IRC completed the year with two big events: the Awards Banquet with Senator Chuck Hagel and the Berkley Lecture with Walter Russell Mead.

IRC’s School Programs had a productive year. The second annual Academic WorldQuest competition, won by Shawnee Mission East High School, took place in February. The International Classroom Partnership Program added two new universities, Avila and UMKC, to the three that already participate. New elementary schools have also been added. Mark Thomas was the winner of the 2007 Eliot S. Berkley Award for International Achievement.

2008 promises to be a great year also. Watch IRC’s website for all of the details.
