WorldQuest
So, you think you've traveled a bit outside the U.S.A., maybe studied a foreign language or two, read the newspaper regularly and are generally well informed about world events? Well, we have some fun for you. Check out WorldQuest, the international team trivia contest, sponsored by the IRC.
A diverse group of over 250 people from all professions - including lawyers, bankers, students, teachers, seasoned (and not so seasoned) world travelers and otherwise competitive Kansas Citians - gather in the spring of each year to compare their knowledge (as a team) of international current events, history, geography, languages and culture. If it's international, it might very well find itself into a WorldQuest category.
Each spring teams of eight, including IRC members and non-members, gather for an evening of fun and intellectual stimulation. Join a team or form one yourself, and find out first hand why competitors can't get enough of WorldQuest. Valuable prizes are awarded to the top few finalists and the winner receives a traveling trophy to be displayed in a place of honor. In addition to competing for the glory, you'll be supporting IRC schools programs such as Academic WorldQuest, the Berkeley Award for International Achievement and Educator Professional Development. These programs are aimed at fostering discussions of international affairs within the community and at local schools and universities.
WorldQuest is a program sponsored by the World Affairs Councils of America and played throughout the country. In strict pre-event secrecy, a local IRC committee comes up with different questions each year for the contest.
WorldQuest 2009 took place on Wednesday, April 15. Keep checking back for details on WorldQuest 2010!
